| | SARAH LAUGHTON (1833 - )
Sarah Laughton (February 15, 1833)
was the forth daughter of John Laughton 1801.
She married David Wooldrage and had none (9) children.
From the John Ivan Laughton March 2009 collection
we were able to piece together pieces of information, much of which
related to the children of Sarah 1833. As she did have a "daughter
Sarah" we have to be clear about which of the Sarah ladies we are
discussing. This gets even more confusing when we introduce Sarah
"Sally" Dishan, the granddaughter of Sarah 1833.
Initially this project did not intend to cover the
siblings of Laughton Ladies once they were married, however as it now
appears that this is of interest to many others who followed their line,
we have started to expand on the family tree contents (March 2009).
Starting on this journey was possible when we received a number of
letters in the package. Ralph Bews from
Kirkwall, Orkney, who wrote to John Ivan Laughton, May 11, 1960 knew
Sarah Laughton who died at advanced age shortly after WWI.
We can start here now with the list of the
children and we have have found in the letters and then sort and
investigate these individuals as more information is received:

Ivan Laughton made to the newspaper "Orcadian" on April 7,
1960. We will attempt to find a copy of the announcement that was
put in the paper (perhaps John Ivan has a copy?).

letters described in the list:
 | Sarah Laughton & David Wooldrage Letters
Package
(from John Ivan Laughton, March 2009)
 | Ralph Bews - May 11, 1960 (Kirkwall,
Orkney) |
 | H. Bichan (Mrs. Thomas Bichan) - July 15,
1960 (Detroit, Michigan) |
 | Sarah "Sally" Dishan - May
30, 1960 (Calgary, Alberta) and January 19, 1961 (to a Mrs.

 | Jessie & John Aitken Letters to John
Ivan (Fernlea, Bignold Park Rd., Kirkwall, Orkney, Scotland) covering a 30 year period from April
1960 until November 1992 (some years are by

 | Jessie is the daughter of Isabella
"Bella" Wooldrage who married Alexander Spense.
Isabella was 92 when the letter was written in 1960, so was
born circa 1868 |
 | Jessie's maiden name must have been
Spense and she must have married John Aitken |
 | Isabella and Alexander had 2 girls and
3 boys |
 | Sarah had a family of 8 (details below) |
 | April 17, 1960: in addition to a daughter, Tom
Laughton 1831 is also reported to have had a son (look
for details - was he killed in the war? - would have been
too old), but neither had any children, so that was
the end of that line. |
 | August 21, 1960: David Wooldrage is
deceased; mention of David's son "Willie" William
1888; Jessie's daughter "Shenna?" had prepared
some documents (does John Ivan have
these?) |

("state of the world at the present time") in the
midst of the Cold War |
 | Christmas Letter 1979: Norman &
Phyllis Laughton 1917 had been to visit Orkney; Norman not
aware of Paul Laughton 1923 in Ottawa |
 | Christmas : husband John is still alive |
 | November 1, 1982: John is ill but still
alive |
 | Christmas 198_: husband John was ill
and has died |
 | October 14, 1988: |
 | Christmas 1989: Jessie has had a minor stroke, recovered
and living with cousin Jean Laughton; references to
grandchildren with some names |
 | Christmas 1990: still communicating with Norman and Paul
and Paul has replied |
 | Christmas 1991: no details |
 | Christmas 1992: still writing to Norman and Paul |
 | there are no cards or letters after
December 1992 - did Jessie die in 1993 or did she just
become too old to write? |
