CANADA CENSUS With the release of Canadian Census data for 1901 and 1911, we have now moved the information previously noted on the main genealogy page to this new Census page. That information has been further expanded in February 2009 with the release of the Canada 1891 Census.
The search engine of the 1891 Census is very good at the Library and Archives web site. Excellent information was obtained on the family members in the Walkerton and Parkhill communities in Ontario. Images of the 1891 Census Pages have been placed on the family member's page for that household (i.e. Jerome 1834 in Walkerton, John 1821 in Walkerton (before moving to Niagara Falls USA), and finally John Hugh 1829 in Parkhill. A PDF document containing all of the information listings from the 1891 Census is located here:
See also the Laughton Document Listing on this web site for the complete listing of Laughton's in the 1891 Census. A sample of what can be found for the Laughton's in the 1891 Census is shown here: (click on the image to see the full scale version)
For the 1901 and 1911 Canadian Census, we suggest the use of the "Automated Genealogy Project", as noted below. That is indexed by volunteers and linked back to the original images.
Some Examples: In July 2005 there was information posted relating to the fully indexed 1901 Canadian Census now available on the Internet and the recent release of the 1911 Census on the Library and Archives Canada site (which at that time had not yet fully indexed). A quick check of the 1901 census revealed a near complete listing of the Van Wyck Laughton clan in the Parkhill area:
A quick look at the 1911 census information (in raw format from the microfilm) can be found for the Town of Parkhill (Middlesex North) at Library and Archives Canada:
Checking the details for the three lists of Parkhill census records (30 pages) resulted in locating the Laughtons on the last page (typical):
An actual clip of the census page is as follows:
A simple summary of "Household #58" in 1901 is found here for the family of "John Hugh Laughton":
Although I never met Great Uncle Clair but living in Grand Bend we all knew Great Aunt Eva, always considered an "outsider" (she and Clair), perhaps this is why, as when they were married he was 24 and she was only 16!
