George Van Wyck Laughton, M.C.
Purchased in the Town of Arras, March 3rd 1917

All of the
photographs from these Post Cards are labeled "European War
1914-15-16-17" as they did not yet see it as a "World
War" and it had not gained the name of the "Great War".
You
will note on the cover that these cards were purchased by my
grandfather "2nd Lt. G. V. Laughton, Tyneside Irish, 26th
Northumberland Fusiliers" in Arras on March 3, 1917. This
was shortly after Grandfather Laughton had completed his officer
training at Oxford and was moving to the front lines to take his role in
the Battles of the Scarpe (Arras & Vimy Ridge).
