NICHOLSON CEF
The most important text for Canadians undertaking research on the Canadian
Expeditionary Force (CEF) in the Great War is the text of Colonel G. W. L.
Nicholson, C.D. of the Army Historical Section, This is also an important
reference for research of any CEF soldier who transferred to the BEF (as is the
case with both of my grandfathers).
I initially obtained a copy of
the text from the Milton
Public Library after I had noted many on-line reference to the
text. Fortunately, the library was not aware of how rare this book
was and its historic and financial value. It was from that copy I
scanned the maps, which are now available on this web site.
In October 2004 I was able to track down a copy of the Nicholson
text, now one of my most prized possessions. I routinely share
information from this text with other researchers, across Canada and
internationally. The current PDF version provided by the
Canadian Department of National Defence (DND) is "text only"
and is not paginated to match the original version.
