We have searched ArchiviaNet of Library and Archives Canada and found the Attestation
Papers of Josiah Chancellor Kennedy, listed as Regimental Number
51288.
It appears that the issue is complicated as Josiah has two (2) sets of
Attestation Papers. The first is dated November 10, 1914 and the
second February 9, 1915. It would appear that he was underage at his
first attempt and had to try again later.
Here is an extract of the actual documents, all of which are accessible from
the link noted above or by clicking on this extract to obtain the PDF document:

It is interesting how these records change the reports that have passed down
through the family history. I had always heard that Grandfather Kennedy
was hospitalized as a result of the gas attack at the Somme - but these records
record only the original wound to the foot and later his surgery to deal with the Orchitis and
Hydrocele (testicular swellings).
Note that these records are of Canadian origin and so they do not deal with
Grandfather Kennedy's subsequent release from the convalescent hospital in
England, his training in the Imperial Army officer's college, nor his subsequent
position with the Royal Irish Rifles. As we find more on those topics they
will be posted on the Imperial
Army "R.I.R" Page.
In addition to the personal records of JACK we have retrieved the
PPCLI War Diary from the Library and Archives web site. The following
files are available:
Princess
Patricia's Index of War Diaries
To date we have download and cleaned these up for the period from November 1914 to December
1916, covering Jack's time with the PPCLI. As each of
these pages were posted to the archives site as an individual JPEG file, we have
downloaded all of these, enhanced them with PaperPort ScanSoft, converted them
to B&W PaperPort files to reduce the file size from 36 megabytes to 3.9
megabytes, and then printed them to ADOBE PDF format for easy viewing. We
also made a Microsoft Excel file that shows the date of the war diary entry and
the corresponding Library & Archives Canada file reference number (i.e.
November 1914, page 1 = LAC File 1072321 = our file 321). The
available files are on our PPCLI
page.
